AI visibility: we tested how ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google AI see our company

We tested promtech.systems in four search indexes and four AI assistants. Google had new pages within two days, Bing an old title and Brave four pages from a site we shut down.

What is AI visibility?

AI visibility means that an AI assistant finds your company, describes it correctly and mentions it when someone asks about what you sell. Each assistant takes its sources from a search index, and the indexes know different things about you. According to what is publicly known:

AI serviceSearches mainly in
Gemini and Google AI ModeGoogle's index
ChatGPTBing's index and OpenAI's own crawler
CopilotBing's index
ClaudeBrave Search
PerplexityIts own index

What did the AI services find when we tested ourselves?

At the end of October we rebuilt promtech.systems with Swedish pages and a guide to AI consultants. On 2 November we measured what four search indexes and four AI assistants saw, before and a few hours after we fixed what we found.

Index or assistantWhat it showed on 2 November
GoogleNew pages indexed within 2 days. First result for our name.
GeminiDescribed us correctly without being given our address.
Bing (ChatGPT, Copilot)1 page, with the title from an earlier version.
Brave (Claude)4 pages, all from an older site about advertising and crypto.
Claude0 of 19 results for our name were about us.
PerplexityMorning: "can't determine", and 0 of 10 sources were ours. Afternoon: the right answer, with our guide to AI consultants as the source.
ChatGPTRead our LinkedIn page first, which said advertising. Right only once it had our address.

All 15 search and AI crawlers we tested could read the site without JavaScript, with just over 2,000 words of text per page. The technology wasn't the problem.

What did they include, and what did they skip?

Google was fastest. In the first three days of data the site appeared 49 times in Google's results, 21 of them for the guide to AI consultants. It ranked 4th for "ai consultants sweden" and 7th for the Swedish question "should I hire consultants or a research institute for AI?". The broad Swedish term "ai konsult" sat at 62. Specific questions are won first.

Outside Google, old versions live on. To Brave, and so to Claude, we were still an advertising company selling crypto campaigns. When we searched for ourselves together with "AI-konsult Stockholm" in Claude's search, 10 of 13 results came from a single competitor.

AI services read more than your site. ChatGPT started with our LinkedIn page and Perplexity with company registers. If they say something different from your site, that is what becomes the answer.

Your name has to stand apart. A Swedish company with the same name ranked just below us on Google, and 6 of Perplexity's 10 sources were about a Russian company also called Promtech.

Text written to be cited got cited. When Perplexity finally answered correctly, the answer was built on the guide, where every section answers one question on its own, and not on the home page.

What did we do about it?

The same day we redirected 3 old addresses to the current site, asked Bing to reread all 29 pages straight away and linked the site to our LinkedIn page. A few hours later Bing and Brave showed no change yet. We measure again on 16 November and will update this post with the results.

How does a company get recommended by AI?

We start from three things:

  • What people actually search for, on Google and in the searches AI assistants run themselves.
  • What actually sells and is in demand in the client's industry.
  • Content written to be cited: the answer first, facts in tables and sections that stand on their own.

This is how we worked for a language-learning app: 22 articles brought 1,366,388 impressions on Google in eleven weeks, and the blog's daily impressions quadrupled. A comparison article was cited first to third in five AI services, for a question where the app had been missing from all 6 that were measured. Only 0.12 percent of impressions became clicks. Most people got their answer right on the results page, and the answer was the app's.

What do we do differently?

Most SEO work is built on the same search data everyone has. We enrich it with data that is hard to get hold of: stock data for retail, blockchain data for crypto and open data from the Swedish parliament for politics. That gives the client content no competitor can write, and fresh facts, exactly what an AI assistant needs to answer questions about how things stand right now.

We also build tools that measure whether a company is visible in each AI service, one at a time, because they know different things.

Checklist: five things you can do yourself

  • Ask about yourself without giving your address. Ask ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Claude: "What does [company name] do?" Note the answers and the sources.
  • Search for your site on Bing and Brave, not just Google. Type site:yourdomain.com and read the titles. Add your site to Bing Webmaster Tools, which is free.
  • Redirect old addresses. Point pages from earlier versions of your site to the right new page (301) instead of showing an empty page.
  • Make your profiles agree. LinkedIn, company registers and directories should describe the same company as your site. AI sometimes reads them first.
  • Check that your text is there without JavaScript. Search your page's source code for a sentence from the page. If it's missing, AI crawlers see an empty page.
